Praise be Jesus Christ now and forever! I hope you find these images relevant and inspirational to your life. I've been drawing forever and was lucky to take adult art courses as early as 13, eventually graduating from the Governor's Magnet School for the Arts. I'm inspired by European and Asian art traditions, including traditional iconography, to create fusion works which embody everyday Catholic and Christian working class spirituality.
I work in a variety of mediums - from egg tempera to oils - using solid colors and focused compositions of intense portraits in an uncluttered environment. I draw from medieval art and icons for pattern and design but most of all for the deep culture and commitment of Catholic faith that they portray. The awareness that God, the angels and the saints accompany each of us and are our everyday companions in the most humble lives and activities has been lost in modern culture. In our daily worries and concerns, in suffering and triumphs, there is a hand that holds our very own through it all and would help us to see blessing in everything, even on the darkest days. In many ways, I just paint spiritual reality. My roots and most of my life experience are in the working class world, with its very practical culture where few resources have to cover a multitude of needs. Currently residing on a tiny Virginian farm in a very open hearted community with a supportive and encouraging husband, I devote most days to work, art and new homesteading.
