I am a print maker based in Bristol, England.
I produce images of the past present and future with an aim to explore and interrogate built environments. I seek to know these forms intimately and to use that knowledge to build new, experimental forms showing different responses in different historical circumstances.
The top down format allows me to treat buildings as units of information themselves, self-evident like letters on a page rather than signifying anything else too greatly. Using this POV the landscape is simplified down to its human elements (streets, buildings, fields) and an ethnographic approach is afforded more clearly. Architecture is of small concern compared to the overall structure of a given place. Focusing upon the structure of a place allows me to introduce and ‘build’ with abstract concepts and research about the real world and its problems more effectively than say a traditional landscape would allow. No perspective, no visual hierarchies, no foreground or background, no putting the viewer in the frame just information, a visual language based upon the urban grammar of human infrastructures
