Kyra Coates Art

Kyra Elizabeth Coates, b.1979

Coates is a Boulder Colorado artist at heart. She paints primarily in oil on linen. Although her range of subjects are many, most of her work is abstract expressionism with vibrant colors and compositions that vary from pure colorful designs to more geometrical shapes. She is fully capable of painting realism from still life arrangements or self portraits and images of goddesses or spirits. Her almost ethereal style fits in well with the spiritual lifestyle that is Boulder.

It is evident that Coates is a trained artist. After graduated from the Maryland Institute College of Art, completing her degree program in painting, she created a large body of work over the next two years. She then applied and was excepted into numerous juried shows throughout the country, launching a very successful and lucrative career.

After moving to Boulder, Coates became known for her colorful abstract expressionism and surrealistic works on canvas and board. She enrolled in an intensive oil painting class at Naropa Institute and worked in her studio daily developing her craft.

While in Boulder, her love of the arts became more passionate than ever. She traveled to many art festivals and juried shows around the country showcasing her work as her paintings sold at a remarkable pace.

Since 2005, Kyra has been on a sabbatical from the art tour circuit, wanting to broaden her worldly experience and knowledge. She is studying Eastern mysticism, consciousness studies, meditation, and international affairs. She has lived in an ashram, studied with master Sai Ma, traveled extensively, and continued her education at Naropa University in Boulder, CO.
