My name is Sylvia. I live in London UK. I have a degree in Printed Textiles, Surface Decoration with Marketing for Designs. I am a designer by profession and crafting items of beauty is my passion.
Ever since I was a little girl, I have been intrigued by patterns, fabrics and embroidery. I find happiness in designing and creating couture and bespoke garments. My creativity isn’t confined to one style of clothing. I design anything from wedding dresses to sleepwear, from simple to ostentatious, from vintage and traditional to modern and avant-garde, depending on what I am inspired by.
I can best describe my design process as a story.
First chapter is the inspiration. Each of my designs are thought out individually. Every dress, t-shirt, wallpaper and cushion has a unique inspiration behind it. My inspiration comes from everyday experiences such a walking through a park, or from memories of times gone by. My unique cultural background and my upbringing also provide me with much inspiration. My mother was a creative seamstress and ran a small business from our home. My late father was an extremely inspirational man. His lessons continue to guide me and many of my fabrics are inspired by his loving personality.
The second chapter I’d call “life”. This is where the magic happens. I source the finest, most beautiful and ethical fabrics and begin to bring my ideas to life. I work with a variety of fabrics and also create fabrics of my own. My favourites are silk, satin, taffeta and tulle. I add the intricacies myself. The detailed craftsmanship of each dress includes jewelled bodices, carefully shaped necklines, sequins, beads, bows, homemade buttons and hand stitched edges.
Chapter three, setting the scene. Once my piece is created, I design various items to complete the picture. For wedding dresses, this includes hats, headpieces, bags, veils, gloves, bridesmaid’s dresses, mother of the bride dresses, and of course matching attire for the groom.
The next chapters are written by my clients. My designs might find themselves at a wedding, on the beach, exploring a new city or having afternoon tea after a day of retail therapy. My clients are confident, elegant and expect the highest standards from their clothing designer. They understand Monsylv is not just about the clothing, but also the experience. My clients value my unique visions and attention to detail, and many of them return for new designs. The positive feedback I receive is overwhelming.
So now that you know a little bit about me, have a look through my designs. Do not hesitate to get in contact for a chat. Together, we can create the start of your dream dress’s story.
