Felt artist Susanne Weber creates wet and needle felted wool paintings. The studied biologist, avid traveller and keen gardener transforms the power of nature – light, colors and structures – into both bright and darker images positioned between the poles of intuition and realism. Susanne’s approach is the fusion of Crafts (felting is an ancient textile process, believed to be the oldest form in existence) and Arts. Wool and other fibers in this context can be defined as a painting medium, complying with many of the rules relating to visual arts.
The prints of her work still show the fascinating structure of the used materials.
Susanne loves experimenting with unusual fibers like stainless steel and Kozo bark. The utilization of violence-free materials like mulesing-free wool and peace silk is a vital issue, and processing wool from raw fleece to self-dyed painting material has become increasingly important to her.
Together with her husband and three cats, Susanne lives in Vienna, the beautiful capital of Austria.
