Drawn and painted representations of figures form a constant in my work. I take the figure as a starting point to say something deeper about human nature.
I am not interested in depicting human joy, laugh, movement, but rather to explore the inner life of the figures I represent. So they tend to appear distant, self contemplative and isolated.
Pencil drawing helps me to give the first strokes but sometimes the drawing itself turns to be a final work.
I use mainly oil colour because of its plasticity and its capacity to achieve brighter colours and dept.
My paintings yield to the qualities to help to achieve an idea or concept. The formal aspect of the paintings is what matters and what gives these paintings their particular character.
