I have liked to draw ever since I was a child growing up on Long Island. My major through junior high and high school was art, but my grandmother told me “you’ll never be able to make a living from it, so take some clerical courses.” As a result, right out of high school, I started working at Helen Hayes Hospital, where I worked in many capacities until retirement in 2007. In 2009, I went back there part time, which still allows plenty of time to paint and draw.
Animals have always been my favorite and as a result, many people know me for my Pet Portraits that are done with colored pencil, pastels and watercolor. Although I continue to do Pet Portraits, several years ago, I enrolled in a watercolor class at our local high school Adult Ed. Program. Through those classes, I was inspired and my ability and knowledge expanded. I especially enjoy painting landscapes and still life, although my animal portraits are in this medium as well.
My favorite quote is: “it’s never too late to be who you might have been!” (George Eliot)
