'Keep on Keeping on” Is a motto Soutaine lives by. Jobless for the first time in 2015 since she moved to America in 2006, she found herself back home 9 years later in her hometown of Steer Town, St Ann Jamaica. Her domestic origins was the connection Soutaine needed to spring back her fearless love for creating something out of nothing with her bare hands. Feeling grounded and connected to her roots, Soutaine found her new way of expressing herself through painting whatever influenced her emotionally & passionately! The first painting Soutaine painted is called 'Mammee Bay', and it is of the beach she experience an intimate connection with spiritually . As a novice, Soutaine learnt that continuing to perfect her craft through patience, trial and error, was the foundation needed to enrich her art. Creating art not as a hobby, but as her passion and one of her many ways of expression, Soutaine found it necessary to incorporate her fashion designs within her paintings. Using various textiles, notions, bright risky color play, glitter dust, abstract shapes, gold leaf and various symbols, she creates 3D fashion pieces that reflects different moods and cultural fashion. She uses bold messages within some of her piece's backgrounds to give the temperature of the piece. Soutaine names her style of art Fabstractshion which is the combination of abstract art and dressed up subjects on canvas. Two of Soutaine's inspirational artists are Voka because of his strong and bold use of colors and the abstraction from his work, and Benjamin Shine because of his use of fabric, creating definitive faces from nothing but textiles. Soutaine's art is influenced by strong and powerful women. She wants her pieces to uplift and motivate women of all backgrounds to be bold and to keep pushing forward regardless of society's stereotypes. She promises to continue to strive toward a greater understanding of the diversity of the world, and to reflect the endeavor in her art.
