As a child my mother would say give him a pencil and paper and he’s happy. As a teenager I was obsessed with portraiture. After graduating from Bournemouth college of art with a distinction, I moved to London where, after a short stint of working on shop window displays, I became a prop maker and polystyrene sculptor for tv and film, culminating in work for two ‘Star Wars’ and two ‘Bond’ movies.
After more than twenty years prop making, I was forced to retire due to a back injury. I moved back to Bournemouth and the new forest where I now live with my partner who’s a dog walker. When her much loved Lakeland patter dale ‘Lotty’ had to be put down, I painted her portrait and this has spawned a whole new direction for my portraiture.
For me, the soul of a portrait is in the eyes.
I hope you enjoy my work and thank you for looking.
