I am a Native Ojibwa from Ontario Canada and have been carving for over 30 years now. I have only started carving coral stone since 2006 where I had carved a stone carving for a native display in the National Park Visitor Center Tobermory Ontario. I have done work for the Grey Roots Museum in Owen Sound Ontario in 2009, The exhibit was an award winning for the museum. "The Good People is a recipient of a 2010 Ontario Museum Association Award of Excellence and a 2011 Governor General's History Award for Excellence in Museums Honourable Mention in the History Alive! category".
These coral stones date back approx. 650 million years old. They were some of the first growing plant matter when most of the earths surface was water. As the earth shifted and formed many of these corals were rolled up in thick clay and remained there until present day.
The corals are extremely hard and are comparable to Granit in hardness. It is from these corals that I do my carvings, I try to capture many of our stories and legends in these stones as they will last for millions of more years. They make not only very unique sculptures but are real conversation pieces of them self.
