SHAHINDA is an abstract mixed media artist. Though influenced largely by Abstract Expressionism, she enjoys merging it with other styles within the abstract tradition, such as pop art. Born in Cairo to Sudanese-Egyptian parents, she later moved to the UK for both her undergraduate and graduate degrees in Economics and Public Policy. Currently, she resides in Egypt as a full-time artist. Many of her works feature hair and mesh from wigs. See ‘Splitting hairs’ series. As a person who struggled with Alopecia since she was 14, through her art, she hopes to raise awareness about hair loss and autoimmunity by illustrating the struggles and beauties of what happens to our souls when we are forced to shed our skin and embark on that journey towards healing, towards finding our truest and innermost selves. As the Beatles would say:

“All you need is love.”
