Always, always loved to paint! Don`t draw; don`t like to draw. Love, love color and even the smell of turpentine so oil is my favorite medium; the real medium. I like curvy lines and muted colors. No harsh primary colors for me.
I can`t keep plants and flowers growing so I paint them in profusion.
Studied a little art at B`ham Southern with McMahan..Absorbed much from a relative, Lawrence Crowell, He studied at Chenaurd in California.
Watched a lot of the the artists on tv; their colors were usually hideous in my opinion but learned fantastic methods.
Had a little gallery and frame shop and studied everything that came in; consequently sold everything I painted good or poor then sold a nice frame to go on it.
My husband once told a customer, "yeah, people will buy anything; Sue sold a painting of some beagles one time for $25.00 I wouldn`t have given her 10 cents for it" So I introduced him to the customer to whom he spoke, "Dear, meet the lady who bought the beagle painting". Well, "everyone to his own tastes" it is said.
Started going by my first name, "Loris". You have to agree "Sue" doesn`t sound "arty" at all.
Then learned that a "Loris" is a monkey that hangs from it`s 3 toes noted for being slow.
Hope you enjoy my "work"? no "play" as much as I do in creating it.
