Hi! My name is Shem Tov Ben Shlomo. I live and work in Har Shmuel, north of Jerusalem, at a walking distance from Prophet Samuel's tomb.
I approached the world of Judaic Art when I left the kibbutz and came to live in Jerusalem. I had been painting oil and watercolor in a surrealistic style, but I wanted to focus more on the Jewish spiritual side in art, and I found that Judaism was very rich in many forms of ritual art. I began to paint and draw subjects dwelled for the Torah , the Talmud, Hassidic writings etc. I started with mural paintings, then moved into the immense field of illumination, working with traditional methods , such as painting on parchment , using gold-leafing and handmade tempera colors.
That led me to other projects such as illuminating manuscripts and scrolls, all done in a traditional way, and connected with Judaism. I have written and illuminated over 100 manuscripts. Including Pessah "Passover" Haggadah, Pirkey Avot " Ethics of the fathers", Perek Shira, Esther scrolls as well as Shir Hashirim scrolls and many more.
