When I was 4 years old, I watched Shamu perform at Seaworld for the first time. The first two things that came to my mind after seeing it was 1- "I want to be a Seaworld trainer when I grow up!" and 2- "I want to draw Shamu!"
Well, uh... I can tell you the first of my two dreams didn't come true. But I did draw Shamu right when I got home. It was a sucky drawing, but from that point on I was hooked with art. You won't see any images of shamu in my gallery today, but you'll see plenty of things that have shaped me growing up. Culture, media, religion- all of these things that affected my pursuit of self-identity. From hijab-clad women to electrifying protagonists from Japanese animated shows, I draw what I like and what inspires me. I try to make art that speaks for me. My one hope right now is that maybe I can reach out to you, the viewer, through the art I make.
