Gina Son is a Korean-American Artist who was born in Seoul and raised in Waikiki, now based in Honolulu, Hawaii. Many of her art work is created in three continents during 15 years of living overseas in places of her dream - London, Tokyo, Washington, DC and Seoul. She studied in France and visited Paris since the mid-80s. Gina is strongly inspired and influenced by the 19th C. French Impressionism masters (Renoir, Degas, Monet, Manet, etc) and in particular, the renditions of women in their time. Gina paints while imagining what these masters would have depicted, if they were alive today, of the more dynamic and complex roles the women play in our time. Being a positive spirit, she chooses to focus on painting happier sides of life, love, romance, being women and emotions on people in cafe scenes. Gina wants to paint many beauty of and joy in our lives and our world today, despite all that is divisive and angst-driven around us. In particular, she loves to capture the feelings and the iconic images of the rich American culture, fashion and women in the 80's when life seemed to have been simpler, easier and better in many ways.
