Ray Hughes
www.ArtPal.com/rahcreatesartI grew up an only child just outside of Eugene, Oregon in a small town, in a small family. Some of my best memories are of time spent with my grandparents and my father. I was close to my dad and my grandparents especially my grandmother.
My mother and father divorced when I was an infant and I never knew my mother. I spent many years battling anxiety, depression and separation issues. I was very young when alcoholism and addiction became a big part of my life. I worked next to my father for most of 20 years and learned many skills.
I learned to do repair work, remodel work on RV's, machines, build cabinetry, flooring, plumbing, and electrical. Work on Hydraulic & pneumatic systems, cut timber, hunt, fish, and sew a garden. I had addiction and alcoholism on both sides of my family. My mother has been sober for over 20 years now and I have recently reconnected with her.
My father went through a bad divorce and was drinking so badly. I was a certified RV Tech by 17 and by the time he went through his 2nd divorce I think I was about 19 and I was drinking and partying every day. I was full on addicted to speed by the time I was 21 and eventually ended up doing about 7 years in jail and prison. I am currently living in Michigan.
My father passed away 8yrs ago from alcoholism, he was 57. I am 42, almost 3 yrs sober, and I have been married to my lovely wife for 8 years, who is an amazing artist and kind person. She has never been an addict, but has experienced it first hand with me. We have grown stronger through these challenges and I thank the creator everyday I wake up and both feet hit the floor and for every blessing I receive. I do my best to help others and to be a positive role model and there is no going back to addiction for me, I am happy to be free spiritually and I would rather help others not go through similar mistakes.
One of my biggest hobbies is playing the guitar. One of the biggest questions I ask myself every day is what can I do to make the world a better place?
