I deconstruct, Then I reconstruct.

I take moments that are considered private and reveal them openly. Each one fragmented like light through a stained-glass window of emotion. Each piece is a conversation revealing more of itself when experienced rather than seen or heard. In a way they are alive! If you listen carefully you will hear them calling out to you. Passionately whispering in your ear their secrets like the distant sound of rain before striking your heart like the swift clap of thunder. “Ba bum, ba bum, ba bum, ba bum….”
oil paint is my medium of choice because it’s a vibrant and moody material. It matures over time and responds well to spontaneity. At times it can be a bit unforgiving and somewhat overpowering but if you hold steadfast to your convictions you always come out with something that feels like more than an image. It also has a wide visual versatility that allows for more expressive mark making and image manipulation.
My process is very intuitive, almost instinctual at times. I respond solely to the object at hand and how it makes me feel. I zero in on that emotion and I target it with my brush letting my palette change as my emotions do. I find this process freeing in the sense that it removes the fetishized desire for realism and opens the mind to a color world with endless possibilities. Language is used to convey thought or opposition in response to stimuli internal or external. It facilitates understanding or hides the truth in a puzzle game carried between the viewer and the piece. My hope is that everyone leaves with a story to tell about a piece that stole their heart.
