Winnifred Liang is a product of a multi-cultural heritage. She is Chinese, born in Malaysia, lived and educated in Malaysia, London (United Kingdom), and now the United States. She has a B.F.A in oil painting/drawing and a B.A. in art history. Her advanced degrees (M.As) are in Geography, and Urban and Regional Planning.
She has worked as a Land Use/Environmental Planner for 20 years in the private and public sectors, and as an Adjunct Geography Professor for 12 years within the community college and California State University systems. She also had a formal classical piano education and training in Malaysia, United Kingdom, United States and is giving private piano lessons. She has given classical piano performances in public.
After retiring from her twin careers in City Planning, and teaching several years ago, she began to focus on painting and life drawing/portraiture. Her primary painting medium is oil. She has also done works in watercolor, pen and ink, charcoals, pencils, and pastels. She has won several first awards in both her oil, watercolor and pastel works including Best of Division, and Best of Show at Calaveras County Fair, 2015 & 2016. She is a member of several art associations and her works were exhibited in several galleries (Calaveras Arts Council, Modesto Mistline Gallery, Sonora Aloft Gallely, and Seventes Saloon}. She was a feature artist at Lodi Public Library (ArtHop) abd Hutchins Street Performance Arts Center, Lodi, and also displayed works at Hutchins Street Performance Arts Center with other artists. In her artistic expressions, she often finds that her art works and music are harmoniously interrelated.
She had given workshops in Art History, and Music History at Delta College, Stockton, and Modesto College, Modesto in 2012-2013. She has also taught a drawing class at the Haggin Museum, Stockton in Summer 2011.
