Though I did not notice it until my teenage years, art has always been within me. I discovered my passion for art when I realized that it was the only way I express myself well. I grew up struggling to explain myself with words and was deep down constantly searching for the one form of expression I knew would allow me to say something without the use of words. I was introduced to art when I was 14 years old and though at first I thought it was just about portraying a certain object, person, or scenery, I now realize that any thought or feeling can be expressed through art. My art is evolving into my representation of the human connection, and the spiritual connection we have with ourselves and nature. Now, I no longer worry about people not understanding who I am through words because I know they will understand everything once they see my works. I have decided to use Papion as my artist name because it has a real meaning to me. I feel very connected to my family. My grandmother's maiden name was Papion, which is similar to the word "Papillon" in French, meaning butterfly, an animal which I identify with; quiet, light, and constantly going new places and discovering. Butterflies also symbolize change and the metamorphosis of oneself, both physically and mentally.
