My main job is that of a teacher. I teach art as my priority specialism amongst other subjects and I teach it at exam level as well as a vocational subject. I like to teach as a form of expression, helping my students learn about themselves through being creative.
My focus as an artist is mainly through painting although I love the discipline of life drawing and this heavily influences my work. I love life drawing and working directly from the model I ensure I maintain my focus in this field and engage in intensive drawing at least once a month.
Through my painting I concentrate on expression and I am influenced by the work of the Abstract Expressionists. Many of my paintings are primarily abstract although the drawing features strongly and can be seen in my work.
Alongside this work which is my main focus I have an interest in cities and landscapes and I have completed several series of paintings concerned with these subjects.
As is the way in our contemporary times we have to make space in our lives to think slowly and pace ourselves. Mindfulness is an important term that comes to mind and drawing and painting are definitely my forms of meditation.
