Nikki Genee is an artist from the Netherlands. She lives on a farm in Warmenhuizen, a village in the neighborhood of Amsterdam.
Nikki studied Image & Media Technology at the Utrecht Academy of Arts. It was here that she created and produced animated films and video clips. During her studies she worked as a freelance illustrator and musician.
Nikki mainly paints in her own free style, but does take assignments for paintings on demand, just as she does with her illustration work. She uses acrylic based paint, and works with stencil templates, aerosols, pastel chalk and acrylic pens.
Genee’s style can be described as ‘figurative to abstract figurative’ and the paintings’ colors are eye-catching because of the use of primary colors.
Themes include love, encounters and music. They are often lighthearted by nature. Portraits are at times semi-realistic and sometimes caricatural. As a result of Genee’s way of outlining, they always become cartoon-like, an obvious sign of her background as an illustrator. This is further emphasized through the captions on the canvasses, often containing a tongue-in-cheek kind of quality.
The paintings are unpretentious, however if there’s one thing Genee wants to convey, it’s joyfulness …
