I am a Canadian artist, sculpting with textiles, fiber, fur, wood and precious metals. I receive materials under various circumstances and then wait for them to speak to me. I am inspired by both the narrative or symbolic association of the material as well as the material’s formal qualities (shape, texture, color, etc.). An example would be the little farm in Northern Alberta that has given me its hard used, weathered wood. The previous owners have shared their stories of the joy and pain while farming their land and I have tried to capture these emotions in my work. A volte-face from the tragedy and destruction resulting from the fires in Fort McMurray is accomplished by creating pieces composed of the clothing abandoned as people fled their homes. Murals created from doors open up the closed walls of a cold room to the world outside. I capture the previous existence of these materials and translate them into new sculptures and art pieces.
