Monica Olsen is a Norwegian Sculptor/Visual Artist who always has been fascinated by human expressions, body language and form. This is why she chose to earn her Masters degree in the US at the New York Academy of Art. Ms. Olsen majored in Sculpture with an Faculty Award of «Excellence of Sculpture» in 2011 after receiving a Bachelor degree in Visual Arts and Ceramic Sculpture in 2005 from the National Academy of the Arts in Oslo, Norway. The Academy in New York was the perfect match for her working figuratively with her wish to learn and grow, she was highly motivated and inspired by the great opportunity of learning from some of the best in one of the busiest artistic cities in the world.
The Academy opened new doors and ways of expression for her To master the anatomy and the technical solutions of the human form was groundbreaking for her. The structure of the body and the head, both in sculpture and drawing has been critical in her development as an artist. One of her main interest is working with portraits, both heads and busts, especially by adding pieces of presence to reflect upon the contemporary time here and now, using objects such as earrings, headgears, hats, stuffed animals, clothing, or untraditional facial expressions, humor or playfulness.
