Gregory Truett Smith

Texas artist Gregory Truett Smith is loaded with talent, passion, and extreme vision. Boyhood dreams, heroes, and growing up as a Baptist preacher’s kid in West Texas and Central Florida in the ‘60s and ‘70s is the fuel that feeds his imagination and inspires him to paint what he paints. For over 4 decades he has been training and sharpening his skills as a commercial illustrator, graphic and fine artist.

Gregory trained at Ringling School of Art, Sarasota (Graphic Design/Illustration ‘82). He has perfected Psychedelic, Stylized, and Realism signature styles of artwork. Studying techniques of Rick Griffin, Maxfield Parish, Diego Rivera, and Thomas Hart Benton, Gregory’s work is, to some, edgy & irreverent. But it always promises to evoke emotion.

His chosen mediums are acrylic paint, pastel, charcoal, pencil, pen & ink, and gouache.

Commissioned portrait works include Jesus Christ, children, private homes, famous athletes and musical artists, western outlaws, and Native American Indians.

A few of Gregory’s clients: Aaron Jones Films, Austin American-Statesman, Red Crane Books, Riverbend Church-Austin, The Santa Fe Opera, Carolyn Wonderland, L.D. Burke lll, National Basketball Association, The American Heart Association, and Pearson, Harcourt, Inc.
