Description
Oil on canvas rendering of the East End Lighthouse in Lewes, Delaware. This lighthouse and breakwater is sits on was commissioned by U.S. Congress and then-President John Quincy Adams in the 1800s. Each stone was brought down from quarries in New York state and hand-laid in place. The lighthouse was build upon the breakwater and used oil to light the way for weary sailors to find refuge. Today, it is retired but has been restored. It still smells of the oil that was used to light the beacon in its prime.
