Marlika or Mari Lappi-Kaipio attended her first fine art class at the age of 5-6. She went on to explore different forms of visual arts in art classes as part of her high school education and as a hobby. Then she forgot about it for over 20 years only to discover this soothing form of self expression at a time of a personal crisis.
Around the same time she discovered that she has synesthetes – it was a revelation to understand that not everyone could „see“ music, thoughts and abstract concepts in their mind‘s eye. This propelled a new creative period as she felt free from theories and set forms of „good art“.
She loves the thinking of impressionists who tried to capture the moment. She herself is always on the look for the now moment, the tiny essence of existance, small enough to be endless. She is fascinated by the play of light patterns and colours and her vivid inner world, full of fantastic images which she tries to capture with pen and brush.
