About Artist and Author, Marlies Bugmann
Experimenting by combining traditional and digital painting with photography; the journey that began decades ago with folk art, then architecture, book illustrations and covers continues in bold colours and daring shapes. ~ Together with book illustrations and cover art came the passion for writing fiction: children's adventure novels, followed by a 13-year journey of translating the Western-genre fiction novels of German writer Karl Friedrich May (1842-1912).

Since June 2000, my artist name, which at the same time is also the name of my dot com domain (my website), is 'tasmanianartist'.

Now, sadly, arthritis in my hands no longer allows me to hold a pencil or brush steady enough to draw or paint. BUT tablet + thick stylus means I can transform my pencil drawings into coloured 'masterpieces' thanks to the magic of my Corel Painter. My fascination with fractalmakers and macro photography of flowers are good replacements for traditional drawing and painting - hence the Gallery Name of 'tasmanianartist D1g1tal-M00dz'.
Photography is also a splendid replacement for what is no longer possible; flowers and wildlife provide much colour and interest, and digital cameras allow me to use my creativity not only as a replacement for brush and paint, but also to give expression to sentiments about such issues as the shrinking of natural habitat, which threatens continued existence of rare and threatened fauna and flora.

All works are POD only, I do not sell physical pieces, the files are uploaded to the POD guidelines as provided by ArtPal, available on the products as listed by Artpal, and are: Highest Quality jpeg/jpg (300dpi with recommended minimum pixel size for high resolution - more for most works), no watermark (most images contain signature / signature fleuron), digitally created or professionally digitized, cropped as tight as technically possible to frame, where pixels are showing, they are an integral part of the image and intended for effect (technique rarely used, and mostly for fractal work); all images are my copyright for photography, traditional painting, digital painting, digital art, text and names, and all other elements within the displayed file. The majority of photographs are digitally textured for effect; not many are 'as taken'.

One last heads up for photographs – my husband and I are co-copyright holders of our photographs taken over the years, and shown here (our last will and testaments say so – we’re babyboomers, deal with it); sometimes I depress the shutter on his cameras, sometimes he depresses the shutter on my cameras. Regardless of the name that is signed on the photographs (they may be snapped by Irwin, or snapped by Bugmann), the copyright is with ‘tasmanianartist’, being the two persons just mentioned combined. This is just to prevent any possible knickers of copyright-policing-algorythmns from getting twisted in a knot while botting – one never knows; cyberspace is a rabbitwarren. In almost all cases (to do with photographs), I cut, paste, layer, texture, or otherwise modify said photographs to push and shove them into a shape that appeals to my arty-farty sense of things. I feel a cup of tea and a chocolate cookie coming on.

On the subject of POD: My literary creations, and my art albums: mybestseller.co.uk/marliesbugmann - no ISBN; a number of my ArtPal collections tie in with my art albums, while others do so with my literary creations such as the fairytale and the Tasmanian children's adventure novels. All books are entirely my own, from inception to design, writing, illustrating, painting cover art, editing, formatting, and uploading to mybestseller in the UK - no ISBN also means that no controlling agency or middlemen have any say on where and how I display my books. The Karl May Riders in the Sky collection here on ArtPal also has its book partner on mybestseller.
