Description
This original oil painting is on board measuring 36"x48". It was begun on location in early 2020 and cut short around March 6th 2020 with the advent of Covid-19. I finished in the studio on June 23 2020. So far it has been exhibited at the Pam Miller Downtown Arts Center for the annual Paint the Town event in Lexington. It was awarded 1st place by juror Bruce Neville.
The sky is borrowed/inspired by a painting from Albert Bierstadt titled "Buffalo Run, Impending Storm". I spent a good amount of time with the Bierstadt painting on a trip to The National Gallery of Art in Washington DC in late 2019 and have since painted a transcription of it in the studio. That's where I had the idea to use his clouds in my own painting. I literally reversed his clouds in photoshop, painted that onto my canvas in the studio, then amended the colors etc working plein air.
