Marie (Tyburec) Kaplan
www.ArtPal.com/mariekaplanI grew up in a small town in South Dakota, miles from anywhere. We had no phone or car. Long winters were spent drawing around the kitchen table or playing music. I was the tenth of 13 children. We had no TV for most of my early years and that turned out to be a benefit. Our Dad was an amateur artist and taught us the fundamentals of drawing. I went to the University of South Dakota and earned a BFA in 1985, then moved to Minneapolis, MN to pursue a singing career. In 1998, I became ill and had to stop working and move back home. I was sick for 16 years with Lyme disease. It causes severe fatigue and cognitive impairments, among many other symptoms. I was determined to paint again. It took four years to get rid of the Lyme bacteria. It's a triumph to paint, sing and write again. (Never take it for granted.) I paint scenes from childhood that are no longer there, as well as other subjects. My work has won awards. I have had solo shows in Minnesota and South Dakota, which I miss because of the direct contact with the viewers. We moved to New Mexico in 2019 and I have not connected with a real gallery yet, although I made attempts. I am hoping to connect with real people through this website.
