Mak Wing Sum, Sammi (b.1996), received her Degree of Bachelor of Visual Arts from Academy of Visual Arts, Hong Kong Baptist University.
I focus on daily scenery, landscape with various emotions of human beings depicted by printmaking and painting. Art making is about memories, creating dreams and seeing the reflection of self from it, which travels through space and also bring people back to the moment they wish to be. Having engaged with different kinds of emotional and mental stages, I recreate scenery in my work to bring forward the journey I had been through.
My work shows the impact of romanticism and pessimism of depiction through strokes and colors constructing the space and story. Every piece of artwork is a process of experiment which shows how every material and color react with each other. I allow the spectators to experience the space I created by my depiction of landscape. Whereas landscape and life objects allow the stories to be told frankly from me. I use scattered, yet unforgettable moments and emotions to create a scenery that I hope would rather be.
