Leah Lieber

Since 2010, I started painting and have had exhibits in Paris (France), West Stockbridge, MA and Chatham, NY. I have also had a long and successful career in costume design for period movies, theatre and opera (Diploma 1981).

I live between Paris and my house in upstate NY where I have my studio. I still work on costumes which inspire me for my paintings and vice-versa.

Raphaël,Michelangelo, Rogier van der Weyden, Rembrandt, Henri de Toulouse Lautrec, Georges Seurat, Edouard Manet, Alberto Giacometti, Nicolas de Staël, Joan Mitchell, Gerhard Richter.... are some of my biggest inspirations.

I paint using oil and oil & wax which I love for its mat and "creamy" texture. I often do a lot of different layers, in different colors, erase, paint again, keeping some leftovers of the premium color.

Some of my earlier works include oil on zinc on old Paris roofs. I‘ve also done lots of watercolors for my costumes projects.
