It all started with my initial interest in the ancient art of suminagashi, a process by which ink is carefully dropped in various techniques on water. It requires a steady hand and is the ultimate test in patience; any sudden move or breath could have disastrous effects. Once grasped however, suminagashi allows one to enter a completely meditative and peaceful state; you must relinquish control over the water and simply stay in the moment. I became captivated by this feeling, along with the fact that the resulting ink pattern is entirely unique and can never be replicated. This gave me the idea to combine these ink paintings with photos of something else that’s never the exact same way twice: the sky. This is the idea that led to this shop and merged my love of nature, photography, and suminagashi.
