I am a self-taught artist/printmaker living in Wisconsin. Prints have been an interest of mine since childhood. As a kid, I collected paper money instead of the coins that my friends were collecting. Later in my life I started collecting prints and eventually decided to try my hand at making them. I liked the relief print so I began making woodcuts. I quickly found that this wood carving was nothing like the whittling I had done in my youth, so I switched to using linoleum to make my prints. After about 5 years of working at a full-time job, making prints in my spare time, and selling them at 10 to 12 art fairs mostly during the summer, I decided to try to make prints full time as a business. There is no fool like a young fool. Twenty-eight years later I am still at it.
In my printmaking beginning, I made images of a wide variety of things since I had no real direction or vision. Each one was practice in the use of the tools...a learning experience. Over 2000 prints later I still feel like I am practicing. I do have things I want to say and every once in a while I succeed in getting an idea across. Maybe eventually I will find that it really is about the journey, not the destination.
