Kelley Batson Howard is a life-taught artist who loves using texture, pattern, transparent paint, and brilliant color in a combination that makes the viewer want to reach out and touch. The artist loves seeing how the paints and different mediums work together on the canvas to create texture and patterns found all around us in nature. She works intuitively and lets the spirit guide what happens on the canvas.
Her desire as an artist is for the paintings to give the viewer a glimpse of Gods magnificence and glory while uplifting their spirit. She desires the paintings to leave the viewer with an impression in time-something pleasant for them-a fond memory or a special place. What they see is left to their own interpretation and imagination.
At 57, Kelley departed her family plant business and began the journey of finding the artist she left behind at 18 while living in Alabama. That artist was in there-she just needed to be let out! Funny how a soul’s purpose eventually rises up and must be lived out. Approximately 5 years ago, Kelley began taking painting classes with a locally known artist in Mt Dora, FL. Then, she set up a studio in her garage. As time passed, more opportunities presented themselves and she has been blessed the past 2 years by getting to let that inner 18 year old artist fly! The journey from the 18 year old to the late 50’s artist has been a long one, but she is now part of a working artist collective in her hometown of Eustis, FL where she spends her days making and creating. Her hard work has led to acceptance into local shows around the Eustis, Winter Garden, and Orlando, FL area museums, being a finalist in juried online competitions, and a tie for an American Art Award submitted the first time out. Kelley has also been part of exhibitions at a local hotel (Hyatt Regency Orlando) and production company (Leonard Chapman Studios-Orlando via Arthub of Orlando) as well as part of an online artists showcase (Artsy Shark). She is now on to a new venture that will have her work included at a retail artisan and makers facility in Ormond Beach, FL (Gathered) where she will be the exclusive abstract artist. She has participated in local artist walks in Mt Dora and Sanford, FL and her studio has a monthly open house to showcase new work. Being an artist is hard work and constant self-promotion Kelley has discovered. To hard work, she is accustomed. Self-promotion- she is learning. We all strive to live out our dreams and our best life. As an artist, she is daily living hers. Follow her on Instagram @kbatsonart to see her daily story.
