Johan was born in 1958. After finishing High school in Johannesburg, i was first drafted into the military where he spend a few years, while attending university he studied Analytical instrumentation, after completing his studies he works in the analytical instrumentation field as an engineer in South Africa, in 2002 he immigrated to country Victoria in Australia where he worked as a business development manager in analytics, during 2006 Johan was transferred to Singapore to be part of the Asia Pacific region office as an analytical specialist. At present, he is working as a training/ project manager in the instrumentation field.
From early age he was drawn to art as most of his family are art orientated, due to other influences that forced him to put his creative mind on hold till later in life, in 2014 Johan went on a trip to Malaysia, while walking around he saw an eagle painting in "paint by numbers", that he can paint he bought the package and paint the eagle, and he loved the feeling of painting again, once he was finished and saw the end product he took up painting classes at “My art space” in Singapore where he explores and fell in love with creative painting all over again. Johan attends London Art College where he studied landscape painting and in 2018 and received his Landscape diploma.
Johan decided that when he stopped working in his current field he wants to take on art teaching, he did his art instructor training course through Brandon Thomas and become a Certified Art Instructor.
Johan is a self-taught artist that started as a hobby at first soon became his second career. Johan love to paint landscapes, flowers and lively street scenes in oil paint. He let his painting lead to the new idea when he started with an idea that he got from a photo, imagination or Plein air he visualizes how he sees the painting through his eyes and convey his feeling on to the canvas. He loves to study the different colors in nature, the greens, browns, and blues and how water changes in color over distance and the shadows play on his mind to show different contrasts.
In 2019 a selection of his paintings was published in the "Current Masters 4”, after the publication of his work “The gallery Steiner” in Vienna saw his painting in the ‘Current Masters 4” and approached him for the participation in a solo exhibition that will be held in January through February 2020.
Johan has been awarded the “Michelangelo International Price” and “Honorable Mention Award” for his painting “Let the water flow” also received a Certificate of excellence for participating in the 31st Artavita art contest.
Johan tries to use every available minute to get behind his canvas and paint. He draws his inspiration from some of the greatest masters the world has known – Van Gogh, Hugo Naude, Adriaan Boshoff, James Michael Smith, Stanislav Brusilov and various other artists.
