A Venezuelan native, Joanne lived in South America and Europe before immigrating to the United States in 1980. She is fluent in Spanish, since her mother’s roots are Spanish-Italian. Her father's ancestors sailed from England in the 1880's to settle on the Caribbean island of Barbados, where they still live to this day.

The influence of this mixed cultural background plays an integral role in Joanne's vibrant paintings. After receiving a Bachelor's Degree in Fine Art from TCU, she spent many years working in Graphic Design, then as a teaching assistant at the Bainbridge Island School District, where her children were students. In 2011, Joanne returned to Fine Art full time and opened her business, JoArt&Design. Her work combines bold layouts and colors that express strong feelings about her subjects.

Many original canvases are part of private collections and some customers request custom size prints to fit their personal décor. All images are available as Giclee prints, which Joanne mounts on deep-profile Birch cradleboards or are professionally framed by the customer.
Joanne’s inventory also includes Greeting Cards and Framed Ceramic Trivets.
