Jessica Ann Wagner was born in Chicago, Illinois and currently lives and works in Austin, Texas. Jessica received her BFA in Painting from the University of Illinois at Chicago in 2007 and her MFA in Visual Arts from the Vermont College of Fine Arts in 2016. She is an Eclectic Solitary Witch and much of her work evolves from her relationship to the craft and collaboration with the universe. This idea is transposed with witchcraft’s relationship to feminism and the empowerment of women through a connection to the cosmos. She is influenced by artists such as Ana Mendieta, Marina Abramovic, and Kiki Smith. Jessica relates spells to wishes cast into the universe that can change our lives into what we want them to be. The power of intention and intuition is greater than any other force that reckons with our surroundings. What do we wish for? What do we witch for? What do we have the power to change? Magick becomes protest and her work is a call to action for all humans to come together and create a climate of resistance in collaboration with the universe. This can be that time when magick saved the world. Her work urges everyone to gather tools and use their own magickal powers to create a revolution. Jessica’s work reinforces that there is no force greater than the universe and when we release all our fighting energy and love upon her she will provide. There is strength in numbers and coming together in solidarity as a coven of humans we will change the world. If there was ever a time we needed magick it’s now. Set the intention, cast the spell, revolt, reform, and rejoice. Witches heal and can save all of us from the true evil that wants to inflict hate upon our world. Her work speaks this truth and she asks for all to join her in ceremony.
