This painting is loosely based on a photograph from my childhood of my mother and brother on a family holiday in Holland. I chose to paint it because its reminded me of a recurring dream I had as a child of my mother leaving me and walking away into the distance where she couldn't hear me. I created this painting with mixed emotions; sentimental memories, sadness and the fear of being left behind.
