James Doane

I have been drawing as long as I can remember. Art is my passion! I would draw anything and everything. I took as many art classes in school as possible. It was my 6th grade art teacher that first recommend that I take private lessons. So, that is what I did!

I started taking private lessons from Tinsley Webb, an Irish portrait artist, around the age of 11 or 12. I learned a TON from him in many different art mediums. I worked in pencil, pastel, and paints.

In high school, I took every art class available to me. I learned everything I could about drawing, art history, and 3D art. It was in high school that I really fell in love with colored pencils. I did several different colored pencil drawings.
I also participated in several art competitions.

Over the years I have done several portrait commissions. These include graphite pencil, colored pencil, and digital paintings. I have also done commissioned work for pages wanting to do promotions. For example, I have done commissioned work for Deviant Art’s Fan Art page to help with promotion and growth. Al Roker has even used my painting for his In Focus blog.
