I think of art as being similar to magic. In the beginning, art and magic were one practice and the first artist was a shaman. As an artist, I share a spiritual kinship with archaic cave art, with its imbued sense of primordial spirituality and talismanic value.
I approach painting process as a ritual and a tool to achieve shamanic transformation of myself and my world. I paint states of being, not objects, thus attempting to invoke spirituality without objectivity. Conceptually, I seek to go beyond the realm of personal expression and into the world of writing and language.
