Artist Dr. Kera LeShey Casciano (formerly Wilson – KLW) is best known for her ability to transform human anatomy into striking pieces.
As a Chiropractor, Dr. Casciano uses anatomical spines as her main inspiration, and couples it with the world around her to convey the unseen beauty of the spine.
Using graphite and charcoal as her main mediums, she is able to maintain significant detail in all of her pieces. Continually pushing her boundaries, she has recently introduced an array of color mediums to her pieces – including oil pastels, watercolors, illustration markers and colored pencils.
Currently, her art can be found in Chiropractic Offices in 33 states of the USA, as well as Canada, Australia, China, Iceland, and Norway.
“Art is just something I’ve always done. My mom was a brilliant painter and it always amazed me to watch her create something out of nothing. So I started creating my own somethings out of nothings. As I grew older and was more immersed in the art world, pieces from Salvador Dali, MC Escher and Degas would quite literally move me to tears. I realized that’s what art was REALLY about – being able to stir an emotion, any emotion, in complete strangers. Art became a large part of my life after that.
When I was going through Chiropractic school, I would sketch out the anatomy to help me better understand it. Then I started seeing the different things the spine COULD be, and my pieces just kind of blossomed from there. I want to stir an emotion in people, make them step back and go ‘Huh, I didn’t ever think of it that way’. For me, that’s what it’s all about. The emotions.”
