Artist’s Statement

Art is an extension of my soul. As an artist, my works are inspired by my feelings and by my deepest emotions with regards to the people in my life, my surroundings, and the current events be that local or global. The struggles of every day living, its joys, trials and tribulations provide me with multiple ideas to put my creativity into action.

I enjoy seeing the young children’s eyes becoming wide with wonder and how every small thing delights them, such as, kicking a stone, or breaking every single icicle within reach, or hiding a snowball under a tree in the hope that on the way back from school it will still be there. The simplicity with which they view every situation and the purity of their heart is really inspiring. I find their antics and their whimsical humor delightful. This is the background for the collection, “Lessons Learned from Six-year Olds”. Children love balloons. Hence, I created a variety of ceramic balloons as well as some fun ceramic sculptures to accompany this collection.

My mediums of expression are ceramics, printmaking and painting. Generally speaking, it is the subject matter that dictates the medium. Once the creative process begins, for me it is akin to meditation. The final work evolves and takes shape sometimes based on preplanned sketches and models and sometimes it unexpectedly takes a new direction. I love to have the flexibility, particularly when I am working with clay.

I am a recent graduate of the Visual-arts program of the Université de Moncton. My areas of concentration are ceramics and printmaking. I have also received formal training in painting during the course of my Bachelors degree in visual-arts.
