Oddbots By Hilberwww.ArtPal.com/hilbernelson
I created Oddbots to brighten your mood and your room. I hope they give you as much enjoyment as I get in creating them. I have been a professional illustrator, graphic designer, magazine designer, and advertising art director. But I am new to the fine art world. I am delighted to be able to offer my work on FineArtAmerica, with its many applications it offers. I paint in the mornings in my studio in southern Idaho. I am a mental health therapist in the afternoons. So, Oddbots are my therapy. I have found painting is even more therapeutic with wine! I also enjoy painting with my grandkids. Each Oddbot is sketched in pencil on a 8'x10' pad. Sometimes I have an idea that morphs into a design; sometimes the design morphs into an idea. I import and refine the sketch into my iPad Pro drawing program (Procreate). Colors and patterns are added. I transfer the final design on to a 30' x 40' canvas. I completely cover the figure with masking tape before painting the background. It's the only tedious and boring part of the process. Thank goodness for Audible books. Making the backgrounds free-flowing and spontaneous is perhaps the funnest part of the process, and in stark contrast to the hard-edge precision of the figure. The originals hang in my living room. And I am making more.
