Born in China and currently lives in beautiful Vancouver, Helen Gan has photographed and painted for many years, both self-taught. A translator and artist at present, she used to be an editor in chief in a travel book publisher (Chinese-Germany adventure), and an editor for higher education for many years. After she moved to the beautiful west coast of Canada she started to paint in watercolor and mainly in Acrylic. Two of her acrylic paintings were showed in an exhibition held in Toronto in 2019, which would also have been exhibited in New York in 2020 if not for the pandemic. What she's trying to do is to combine Oriental culture and art and western ones. Her fusion sometimes presents amazing charms, and liked by lots of audience across different cultures. She’s teaching teenager students as well, and is loved by them.
As a humanist, Helen's paintings focus mainly on nature, living lives and environment, to convey the beauty of nature and her concern about it. Traditional Asian painting techniques such as detailed brush paintings shed influence on her arts.
