Using oil mediums on canvas, the majority of my paintings tell a story of things I experienced during my childhood and teenage years. I grew up in the rural south, Prentiss, Mississippi, where my inspiration for American Folk Art subject matters come from.
It was hard growing up in the rural south during a time when Afro-Americans were treated with disdain, and you were not considered as a human being. I was raised on a farm, and we often worked in cotton fields as sharecroppers from sun up to sundown. My father repeatedly did not receive his proper wages, which caused a hardship on the family. However, there were numerous things in my world that were beautiful, and attributed to historical facts. Painting them is my way of preserving these memories. I can honestly say I appreciate all of my life's experiences; it has built character and integrity and made me the man I am today.
My passion is in American Folk Art. I enjoy doing oil paintings of landscapes, African/Black Art, sculptures, portraits, wild life, still life, and several handmade crafts such as unique birdhouses. My desire is to create oil paintings that tell a story, touching the heart of people, and that pleases God.
