My academic background is in Philosophy, Government and Law, but I was
always on the verge of painting as a profession, because my cousin was a
professional artist and my mentor.
He was granted a BFA by USC before WWII, painted logos on warplanes, then settled down in
San Antonio, Texas, where he became a well-known Texas artist and taught at Trinity University there.
It was he who first interested me in oil painting as a way of life, but I never really
accomplished it until retiring from a career in social work in New York City
shortly before 9/11. Before that I had worked
in art sporadically, capturing mostly scenes from nature and
New York architecture and dabbling in colorful abstracts I call Neo-fauvism.
