I grew up on a tiny mountain top village on a small Greek island in the middle of the Aegean, where in the mornings and evenings I would stare out at the ships crossing the sea, bringing supplies and people to the island and taking others away. My favorite pastime was trying to draw these boats that came and went and filled my mind with adventures about to be embarked on. My earliest drawings are of these boats coming and going. These first drawings sparked an interest in art, and I experimented with charcoals, pastels, watercolors, and finally settled on oil painting -this is where I find my greatest joy. Eventually, I too left the island to go to the capital city of Athens to study art and later came to New York, the epicenter of everything artistic. Here I went to university, pursuing a degree in Fine Arts and explored the many museums and galleries, traveled and read as much as possible and absorbed the high paced energy of this pulsing city. While I chose to take an office job, I never stopped painting and sketching, and am often walking around the city, camera and sketch book in hand, drawing out the people I see interacting with each other, and the landscapes they inhabit. I'm drawn to those colors of the sea, and nature, which remind me of those first drawings I ever made. The themes that you find reverberating throughout my art are nature filled - trees, flowers, and especially the never-ending blues of the sea.
