Flyingbear is Australian artist, Claire Simpson. Claire is an award winning artist has been producing original works since 1995. She has an extensive exhibition history, and is part of the WASHOUSE Collective, a group of artists working out of Mullumbimby, in the shire of Byron Bay, Northern NSW. Claire's main medium is oil on canvas, but she also dabbles in sculpture and recycling op-shop treasures.
Claire's work centres around the duality of reality and the dreamscape. She in inspired by the works of the surrealists such as Louise Hearman. She uses events from her own life, places she has traveled, the personal and intimate observations of everyday life, and works them into creations of the obscure and fantastic often creating creatures from the other side out of the shadows. She exercises a voyeuristic bent with a hint of mystery around the edges; there is always a hint of something else about to happen, just out of shot. What that is, she leaves to you. Dionystic and otherworldly, Claire's work represents a different take on the surrealist imaginings that you may be used to.
