For the last few years, I've been playing around with what seems to me like an old medium made anew, yes folks, I give you the pencil. Though they are not just any pencil, these are old round carpenter's pencils from the early 60's, and, as you can see, they put down some serious black. Their smudgability factor is some of the best that I have found, with the exception of the 8 and 9B graphite sticks that can be found at the art stores, these guys are the best.

In the last year or so color has been creeping its way back across my easel, and though my love affair with my carpenters isn't yet over, color has an incipient way of working itself back into one's world. For this purpose I was forced to look around my studio, being a struggling artist one must always find a way to make due. Colored pencils are a medium that I had never tried in the past but am now finding that they work out quite well, these, along with sharpies, colored and grayscale markers, and last but not least, those dollar boxes of children's chalk, seem to really give me some killer effects.
