Emily J Horner was born in England in 1988 and from a young age dreamed of being an artist when she grew up. She loved drawing, painting, sewing and anything else that involved using her hands to create something from scratch. She studied Fine Art and Textiles to A level and at the age of 18 finding herself at a fork in the road, she opted for the sewing/fashion path. She went on to start her own fashion label, creating handmade, unique garments of the heavy metal persuasion which eventually became a global brand. She ran her business single handedly for 10 years, designing, creating, modelling and photographing her creations and working alongside rockstars to produce custom stagewear for shows. This all came at a huge personal cost however and after a few years she became chronically ill due to the stress from overworking herself, but she struggled on juggling her illness and the demands of her business for years before she finally admitted to herself that she wasn’t happy. More than anything she longed to spend more time painting, if only there were enough hours in the day! In 2016 after a very long debate she finally took the plunge and closed down her business to be reunited with her first love, painting.
Emily is a country girl by nature and therefore her preferred subject to paint is mainly beautiful landscapes and seascapes, places of natural beauty that remind her of her childhood and times where she has felt happiest and most at peace. Her style moves between realism and impressionism and being a fan of all things bright and beautiful, she tends to work with vibrant colours, depicting the world in the way she would like it to be.
